Lyrical Photographs Challenge

You Capture was the first blog-type photo challenge I ever participated in, and my favorite entry is the Black and White Assignment:

In My Arms
by Plumb

Your baby blues, so full of wonder
Your curly cues, your contagious smile And as I watch you start to grow up
All I can do is hold you tight.
Story books full of fairy tales

Of kings and queens
And the bluest skies
My heart is torn just in knowing
You'll someday see the truth from lies
Knowing clouds will rage
And storms will race in
But you will be safe in my arms.
Rains will pour down
Waves will crash around
But you will be safe in my arms.
Castles, they might crumble
Dreams may not come true
But you are never all alone
Because I will always

Always love you.

I had so much fun putting photos to my favorite Plumb songs. I love music. You won't catch me singing in public, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate good melody and meaningful lyrics.

I want to do more of these!

And THAT is the challenge.

Lyrical Photographs - How It Works

Here, in an FAQ-type format (because this is also an FAQ link at the top of my page that I don't feel like re-writing), is how it works:

Remember when MTV was all about music videos? To be sure, some of the videos just confirmed the statistics that the majority of musicians were hopped up on something. But then there were those that made you sigh and nod in wholehearted agreement: "Yes! Those are exactly the images that come to mind when I hear that song!"

Well, now it's your chance to turn any song into those exact images that flit through your mind the moment the notes float into your hearing range.

Here are some questions you might be asking:

What exactly is the challenge?
Choose any family-friendly song and snap any pictures that either illustrate the song or the feelings/mood the song conveys.

What kind of song do I use?
You can use any song! AS LONG AS IT IS RATED E FOR EVERYONE! (The portion of lyrics you post at least must be family-friendly.) Hymns are certainly a beautiful and all but forgotten art. On the other end of the spectrum, Weird Al is a lot of fun! Rock, rap, elevator music...I suppose even instrumentals could be used as all music invokes some sort of feeling. If you chose to use an instrumental, though, you might also post an audio or video sampling of the song.

Do I have to use the entire song?
Absolutely not, especially if the entire song is not Rated E for Everyone! Use just one verse, the chorus, 1 line, just the title. It's up to you!

When will the challenge take place?
I tend to take on more than I can handle, and the best way to combat this is to NOT take on more than I can handle. So...at least for now, I am only going to host one of these per month. I will post my lyrical photographs as well as the linky for the challenge on the first Monday of every month. I will leave the linky open for 2 weeks.

How do I participate?
Create a blog post on your blog that follows the rules as outlined above. Once I have posted the challenge for the month, scroll down to the bottom of my post and follow the instructions for the linky.

Please be sure to link just your post, not your entire blog.

Please employ good participatory etiquette and visit and comment on other participants.

In your post, please be sure to link back to Treasured Chapters. You can get a button here:

What if I have other questions you haven't answered here?
You can email me, or you can leave a comment on this post.

That's it. So...join me! Even though it is a Tuesday, we are going to start the very 1st day of February. You've got over two weeks to work on your first one.

So get singing. Or photographing.

Fun! Wish I had more time... but I would love to participate when I can. I remember I did one of these last Christmas, can I enter an old one I did? I LOVE your focus on photography!

I am not very strong in the creative department, as you know, but I will give some thought to it and see what/if I can come up with. :-)
