You Capture - Sweet

We had a sweet field trip lined up for the afternoon: a Gingerbread House display followed by an opportunity to decorate a personal gingerbread boy (or girl). We got shoes and socks on, hair brushed, coats on, and headed out to the car where everyone buckled in.

I turned the key over.

Nothing.

I wasn't surprised. Someone (*cough* me) left the dome light on for several hours yesterday.

We got unbuckled, went back inside, took off our coats and our shoes. Not a very sweet predicament to be in, missing a field trip and all.

So we turned our missed outing into our own sweet field trip. We got out the gingerbread house kit we purchased yesterday, and contruction began.

Sweet, precious children hard at work.

And, in the end, a sweet house!

We really enjoy decorating the gingerbread houses each year. I stumbled upon a pack of 8 (small) people we still have to decorate.

It will probably fall under one of our "12 days" - if we get really adventurous, we might bake some ourselves instead of using the rock-hard store bought ones. :-)

Glad you were able to turn your day into something fun and sweet. :-)

Such SWEET pictures of the kids! Love those holiday traditions. We always made gingerbread men when the kids were growing up. It tickled me when Daniel told me last week that he made gingerbread men for the students at his school and each one decorated their own for dessert at their Christmas lunch.

I truly believe that there are no "accidents". You were meant to have this time with your lovely children. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon!

It's great that you were able to create a fun activity out of the missed field trip. I'm sure that made them very happy. They did a great job on the house!

Um... I'm jealous. I want to make a gingerbread house, but my kiddos (believe it or not) hate doing them. Weirdos, lol!

I love how creative gingerbread houses inspire us (kids and adults) to be. I like to do one for the adults and the kids get to do their own. Always INTERESTING!

I'm so sorry you didn't get to go on the field trip--is your car better now?

It was wonderful that you had a gingerbread house kit at home! It looks like it was a lovely time. :)
