back to the Real World

It's over. My Our Christmas vacation is over. Five weeks of baking and sleeping and shopping and playing and partying flew by at a much greater speed than any five school weeks could ever pass by.

Tomorrow begins the last half of the 2009-2010 school year in our home. Which means I can't stay in bed until 9:30 anymore. And our homeland security will reclaim tighter restrictions on video game, computer, and TV use. And a stricter bed time will be enforced. And which also means the children will probably appreciate the resurrection of the Hot Breakfast. Did I mention there will be no more sleeping in 'til 9:30 for me?

Speaking of breakfast and the kitchen and all...I've been perusing Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious again. I pureed some carrots the other day. Mark hid some of them in the burgers he made for dinner yesterday. The others went into the mac and cheese this evening. Boxed macaroni and cheese because that is the children's preference. Which makes hiding those carrots in there all the more important. I feel empowered.

They need the energy from the carrots because I have a very full, busy day planned for tomorrow. It's been great having 5 weeks to plan the last half of the year. One thing I've been working on is organizing our own little Keepers of the Faith Club. If you're not familiar with it, it's sort of like Boy/Girl Scouts for lazy people. And, no, you would never find that description on their website. It's just that I am lazy and do not want to have to take the children out anywhere for Scouts. So we're going to just do our own little club whenever we want, wherever we want. The kids still learn stuff (hopefully) and earn badges.

My plans are ambitious for the last half of this year. Here's hoping the kids rise to the challenge. Don't bother me at 6:30 tomorrow morning; I'll be pressing my snooze button.

We're so on the same page. The post I just scheduled for tomorrow morning thematically echoes your sentiments. It's hard to get back in the groove, but it sounds like you've got some good things to look forward to. Happy back to school day!

I guess vacation cannot last forever. We are also starting back today. I have a schedule posted for school and extra-curricular activities (and bedtime). I made a point of showing it to the boys last night. No sleeping till noon, no being glued to the Wii and the computer for hours on end...and school starts.
I was not very popular last night.

I know! I was definitely not ready to get back into the swing of things. I have one home all week this week b/c of chicken pox and was actually wishing everyone had them so I could sleep in this morning...ha ha! Bad mommy! We only had 2 weeks off of school though, never long enough!
I hope your 2010 is great! :)

I've very firm in our commitment to possibly start back tomorrow. Probably. Maybe.

Sadly, mine will be ready for it. I'm the problem. I hate structure and my "baby" thrives on it. Guess which one of us is the mature one. ;oP

I love the way you're doing KotF. What a great idea! Mine (the 20-yr old) did Scouts. After I resigned as troop leader, we did a lot at home while getting ready to move. Of course, you already have your own "troop". =D

Love the cookbook you got-I got the one called "Sneaky Chef." Same concept. My kids don't mind the stuff I hide in their food. They just want food. So I use the recipes as a way to get more good stuff into the good stuff they already eat. Gotta love having swimmer kids! :o)

Also, on Keepers of the Faith. I tried to motivate myself way back when, but failed....miserably. Em went to scouts for four years and quit. Too feminist for our taste. Jared is still in scouts and loves it! It's such a boys' club, though--hard for this mom to stay outta the way, ya know??? Enjoy!
